Injury Hit Lions Have Difficult Weekend

The Nottingham Lions sick and injury list is getting on the verge of an epidemic, last weekends games saw the largest list of players unable to dress for the Lions in recent memory, some of the players missing were:

Alan Levers (Injured Knee)

Elliott Perrin (Broken Arm)

Matt Greaves (Dislocated Shoulder)

Mark Corfield (Food Poisoning)

Gareth O’Flaherty (Fractured Foot)

Ciaran Quinn (Suspected Broken Wrist)

Also Ben Wood has received a severe facial injury in the game in Solihull on Sunday night.

Chris Colegate and Max Bennett were both unavailable due to family commitments, and on Sunday the 18s were unavailable as they were playing Sheffield back at the National Ice Centre.

Last weekend saw the Lions lose 5-2 at Sheffield on Saturday against a full strength Spartans team and on Sunday a very short benched Lions (12 Players) lost 4-3 against a 22 man Solihull team.

This weekend sees the Lions take on the Solihull Barons on Sunday (30th October) Faceoff  7:15pm. The Lions should have some players back from injury, so will be looking for some payback!!!

Nottingham Lions 2 Telford Titans 7 (16/10/11)

Two goals and a man of the match performance from Nick Whyatt weren’t enough for the Nottingham Lions as they went down 7-2 at the National Ice Centre last Sunday night.

Head Coach Matt Bradbury commented “As a team we switch off at key moments and a lot of that is down to inexperience and that’s when teams like Telford capitalise and take their chances. At times during the game we had Telford on the back foot and outshot them 33-30, whilst we didn’t pick up points it’s key that we keep that fighting spirit. ”

“Telford are a good outfit and should be challenging for honours this season – they are well drilled and have many years of experience”

We face difficult back to back away games this weekend facing Sheffield Spartans (Saturday) and Solihull Barons (Sunday).

“It’s vital that we pick up points this weekend as we are too close to the bottom of the league for comfort. We need players to stop feeling sorry for themselves get their heads down, roll up their sleeves and get on with it.”

Lions netminder Alan Levers will be out for two weeks with an injured knee after a collision with a Telford player during the Lions 7-2 defeat to Telford.

Netminder Alan Levers Injured

Lions netminder Alan Levers will be out for two weeks with an injured knee after a collision with a Telford player during Lions 7-2 defeat against a well organised Telford Team.

Lions look to this weekends on the road double header against local rivals Sheffield Spartans on Saturday (4:30pm face-off) and on Sunday against Solihull Barons (6:00pm face-off)

Nottingham Lions 2 Trafford Metros 7 (18/09/11)

Lions went down 7-2 to Trafford Metros at the National Ice Centre with a well below par performance.

Whilst we have had a great start to the season with victories over Sheffield and Coventry, we do have some inexperienced players and some with more experience we cannot just turn up and roll over against the opposition. Performances like this will not be tolerated.  We have a lot of work to do over the forthcoming weeks.

Man of the Match netminder Alan Levers stood on his head and whilst conceding 7 goals, it could have been a lot worse, however he was the most determined player on the ice.
