Lions End Movember With Burlesque Close Shave

Players and staff from the Nottingham Lions celebrated the end of their Movember fundraising campaign in style at the Black Cherry Lounge last Friday week as they paraded their cherished moustaches on stage during the Black Cherry Burlesque event.

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Alongside Burlesque, Cabaret and Vaudeville acts, five of the best examples of Lions face furniture were selected to battle it out on stage for the coveted best moustache title, which was eventually won by winger Gareth O’Flaherty, whose pencilled effort received the biggest cheer from the sell-out audience at the Nottingham night-spot.

Gareth O’Flaherty is declared the winner by Cherry Deville.

However, the highlight of the evening came when defenseman Jack Baveystock was selected by his fellow teammates as having the worst example of a ‘Mo’ and ordered to perform an on-stage ‘arousal dance’ in front of the show’s host, Burlesque star, Cherry Deville.

Jack did the boys proud with a minute-long, jaw-dropping, Chippendalesuqe performance, which left both his teammates and host, Cherry briefly lost for words. He was then crowned ‘King of the Dance’ much to the audience’s delight.

The Lions who took part in the month long challenge helped Blue Bell Hill Trust to raise a magnificent £1293 over the 30 day period. On behalf of the trust the Lions would like to thank everyone involved and everyone who made a donation to such a worthy cause.

A selection of photos from the evening can be found on our official Facebook page.

Don’t forget you can catch a freshly-shaven Lions team take on local rivals Sheffield Senators at the National Ice Centre this Sunday (7.15pm face off). Ticket details are available here.

Lions Media & Social Night

Tomorrow evening sees the chance for the Nottingham Lions to kick-back and relax in the comfy surroundings of Frankie & Benny’s for the first ever Lions Media & Social Night.

Matt Bradbury’s men will be gathering at the Upper Parliament Street branch of the popular restaurant for a special evening involving their sponsors, students from South Nottingham College along with some special guests.

The evening will give the players and the off-ice team a chance to get together and socialise outside of their normal hockey routines as well as the opportunity to mingle with some of their sponsors and partners including the likes of Ice Locker, Blue Bell Hill Trust, South Nottingham College and Frankie & Benny’s.

The gathering will also give students from South Nottingham College the opportunity to interview a selection of the Lions players as part of their coursework.

Special guests include Capital FM’s ‘Capital Breakfast’ show presenters Dino and Pete who will be giving a short talk on their lives as DJs and giving out some useful career tips to the students in attendance.

Keep an eye out on nottinghamlionsenl.com for full report and photographs from the evening.
