Nottingham Lions 1 Coventry Blaze 3 (02/10/11)
The Lions were again unfortunate last weekend going down 3-1 to the Coventry Blaze.
Head Coach Matt Bradbury “Performances are improving – some players are getting a little frustrated, however its key that we maintain our intensity and focus. We are dominating and outshooting teams – we need to be more clinical in front of goal and remain patient at the same time too. It shouldn’t then belong before things fall into place and we start to pick up points both at home and on the road.”
The Lions face the long trip to Whitley Bay this Sunday to face last years league and play off champions. “We’re looking forward to the trip and realise that his hard to dig out points up there, having said that the pressure is firmly on Whitley as they have high expectations. We’ll keep chipping away, play our normal game – you never know we might even get a lucky bounce or two!”
Defenceman Ciaran Quinn got the only goal of the night and picked up the man of the match too.
Coventry Blaze 1 Nottingham Lions 4 (10/09/11)
Approaching the game in Coventry having gone down to a play-off semi final shoot out loss last season, it was important for us to put that one to bed and after some dubious tunes and dancing the in the locker room pre-game we took to the ice for match three.
Having worked hard on several technical aspects in training with each of our lines it was key for us to get a strong performance in the Skydome. An unusual game to say the least and at times i’d rather forget the first 40 minutes, but I can quite well say that we saved the best til last as we approached the final third tied at 1-1. After some strong words and some minor changes we woke up and lit the lamp 3 times. It was great to see the goals shared around and to take away a 1-4 victory.
Special mention for Craig Wallis and Danny Rose – strong performances at the back. Griffy once again turned on the style with some great stops.
If during the pre-season you would have been told you’d have 4 points from the first 6 available – you’d take that!
Long way to go this season, but a more than satisfying start just putting some points on the board so early in the season in comparison to last season.
