Telford (A) & Trafford (H) Preview

The Nottingham Lions last two-game-weekend of the regular season sees them travel to Telford on Saturday to take on the Titans at Telford Ice Rink (5.30pm Face-Off) before returning home to entertain the Trafford Metros at the National Ice Centre on the Sunday (12th February – 7.15pm).

The Lions will be looking to build on last weekend’s impressive 4-0 win over Coventry and move further away from the relegation places in the ENL Division 1 North, while their respective opposition both sit in mid-table and are currently chasing a play-off position.

Lions taking on the Metros back in September

The Lions have had mixed fortunes against the Titans this season, losing both home ties, however they will gain confidence from their valuable 3-2 victory in Telford back in December .

Nottingham have yet to beat Trafford this season with the Metros coming out on top so far in both meetings. But the two sides have not met since back in September and with the Lions adding a number of new players to their ranks over the festive period they should prove to be a different proposition this time around.

Head Coach Matt Bradbury had a quick chat to LionsTV last weekend about this weekend’s games, saying;

“They’re both sold teams and solid units, it’s going to be tough.”

“We didn’t expect anything last time we went to Telford and we came out of that one with a victory – It just shows you anything can happen on any given night – I think that’s the great thing about the league this year.”

“If we work as hard as we can, pull together and put a bit of a run together we might not even be talking relegation – we might be talking playoffs!”

“Everyone’s enjoying themselves and eveyone’s battling away hard for the team.”

Nottingham Lions 2 Telford Titans 7 (16/10/11)

Two goals and a man of the match performance from Nick Whyatt weren’t enough for the Nottingham Lions as they went down 7-2 at the National Ice Centre last Sunday night.

Head Coach Matt Bradbury commented “As a team we switch off at key moments and a lot of that is down to inexperience and that’s when teams like Telford capitalise and take their chances. At times during the game we had Telford on the back foot and outshot them 33-30, whilst we didn’t pick up points it’s key that we keep that fighting spirit. ”

“Telford are a good outfit and should be challenging for honours this season – they are well drilled and have many years of experience”

We face difficult back to back away games this weekend facing Sheffield Spartans (Saturday) and Solihull Barons (Sunday).

“It’s vital that we pick up points this weekend as we are too close to the bottom of the league for comfort. We need players to stop feeling sorry for themselves get their heads down, roll up their sleeves and get on with it.”

Lions netminder Alan Levers will be out for two weeks with an injured knee after a collision with a Telford player during the Lions 7-2 defeat to Telford.
